Lingerie - History and Information
Lingerie has always invoked femininity in women and, yes, masculinity in men. With online lingerie varying from unassuming to adventurous, there's something sure to spark your interest.
A woman's body is like an artist's canvas. Her lingerie? His paint. Paint your "canvas" with brilliant, vivid colors and silky fabrics. Sexy lingerie includes anything from cotton panties to sheer babydolls or leather thongs.
White Panties - This category by itself is comprised of briefs, bikinis, string bikinis, g-strings, thongs, french-cut, and even boy-cut styles. Each one of these fashions has it's own individual traits which help define it. Although the differences between g-strings and thongs may sometimes be blurred.
Then again, you may be asking yourself, "What's the difference between a chemise and a babydoll?" Babydoll's are shorter and usually come with matching panties or g-strings. While chemises are usually longer, providing more coverage.
Bras come in many various styles but usually serve one or both of the following needs; support and/or modesty. Various incarnations of the bra include:
- Training bra - designed for teen or preteen girls in the early stages of breast development
- Full cup bra - provides full support and covers most of the breast
- Demi cup bra - supportive with maximum exposure of the breasts. This bra only covers the breast to just above the nipples
- Padded bra - contains padding in the cups to provide a "fuller" look
- Underwired bra - contains an underwire in the cups to provide extra support
- Strapless bra - comes with no straps to provide support under strappless attire
- Convertable bra - straps can be rearranged in order to keep them hidden under attire with plunging necklines or backs
- T-shirt bra - designed with no raised seems to be worn under tight t-shirts.
- Minimizer bra - designed to minimize the appearance of breasts by 1-2 cup sizes
- Maximizer or Push up bra - bras which emphasize cleavage and lift the breasts, usually through a combination of design and padding. The padding may even come as silicone inserts or water
- Sports bra - designed to be comfortable and supportive while minimizing movement
- Built-in bra - comes inside clothing or bathing suits to rid the need of a separate bra
- Shelf bra - only covers the lower portion of the breast to below the nipples. More fashion than function
- Peephole bra - contains holes around the nipples. Loose fitting provides little support. More fashion than function
- Maternity bra - adjustable to take into account that womens breasts are larger, heavier, and more sensitive during pregnancy
- Nursing bra - designed to support breasts during feeding. These bras contain flaps that can be opened during feeding.
- Mastectomy bra - designed for women that have had a breast removed. The cups are designed with pocket for prostheses
Due to increased comfort in recent years, thong underwear has become more popular. The thong tends to provide more coverage. While the g-string is, as the name implies, not much more than a piece of string connecting a piece of fabric to a waist band.
Corsets have gone through a massive metamorphosis since their creation. For years womens fashion was dictated by the corset. Now, in contrast, they are used to entice adults in the bedroom (or beyond). Today's corsets are made of silky materials, are much easier to lace, and simply feel more comfortable than their "Victorian" counterparts.
Girdles have gone through a similar metamorphosis. From the early 1900's to the 1970's girdles played a meaningful role in women's wear. With modern materials such as spandex and lycra, girdles are more comfortable and can provide varying control.
Stockings - For generations nylon stockings and pantyhose have adorned the female leg. Whether they're silkies or black seamed; different sizes, colors, and styles can be utilized to emphasize your look in any time or place.
With advancements in the fashion industry and technology, the future of lingerie is virtually limitless, bound only by your imagination.
